When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead is a very exceptional book and well written. Some parts were extremely interesting. This book reminds me a lot like "Lost". "Lost" the T.V. show is about people who crash on a mysterious island and travel through time just like in this book. Traveling through time is a very hard thing to write about and the author did a very good job of describing what time travel is about.
This book is very well written. An example of this is the author's decision to make one segment into sequential order. In one important scene, the author puts the main characters thoughts in order. Another reason the book is well written is how the author gives you a clear description of what the ghost looks like. I really liked how the author describes one character beating up another character. When the author writes in the book 'bent over and frozen' it gave me a clear picture of a kid that was bent over and blood coming down.
My advice to this author would be to not make one character's life so dark. Sal gets punched, nearly gets run over by a truck, and then breaks his arm. At least he is a happy character and still has Miranda as a friend, but I would like to see better things happen to him in his lifetime.
As you can see, from my examples When You Reach Me is an exceptional book and is very well written.

ReplyDeleteI could see u saying that, good job!
ReplyDeleteYou had really great evidence!
ReplyDeleteGriffin,
ReplyDeleteI think that you had some really good evidence and some longer words. Like when you said exceptional. I also like when you gave advice to the author. I think that was some really good advice. I agree that the character's life's are dark, and that the author should have made some more happy parts in the book. I also like how you compared Lost to When You Reach Me.
I wish that you gave me more evidence about the time travel. Maybe a couple more sentences. I also think that you should have put some details about Sal and Miranda's life.
Good job!

I really like how you gave multiple examples on your advice to the author. Such as, Sal gets punched, nearly gets run over by a truck, and breaks his arm. It really gave me a clear picture on how dark his life is.
ReplyDeleteI do think that you could have had a longer conclusion.
Great Post,
Kate
great post I am reading that right now. It is a very good book. I was thinking that I would stop reading that book and start reading another but now I think that I will keep reading it and read the other one later. It seemed like you liked the book how many trees do you give it? again that was a great post and you wrote it very very well.
ReplyDeleteI really liked how sometimes you thought that the characters where being a little bit unfairly treated but you still didn't put the author down and you still kept it really positive which I like that in your piece of writing.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I thought that wasn't very appropriate when you used "Lost" for evidence but since you thought it was good than thats fine. Overall I thought it was very well written and well done, nice job Griffin, I can't wait to read your other posts.
