First, the book was really good because it was very fast paced, that means all of it happens really fast, some people don't enjoy this type of book because the "good parts go by quickly," true, but in the case of this book; no.
Secondly, this book won a Newbery Medal, that generally means the book is good for children. I saw girls reading it last year, but no boys, so I decided that I wouldn't read it until a boy read it. {Definitely not a girls book, fact.} When I got picked to read this for a book club, I was bummed out, but now I am recommending it to all of you readers, so times change.
And third, not many "girl-ly" parts in this book, it is told from a girls point of view, which I think is a really good component for a good book for boys. That way, I could see how a girl would think of the situation.
Really, to tell the truth, I recommend this to ONLY boys, (you can get to understand how other genders would think about it.) I am not criticizing girls at all, I just think boys would understand it better. I would give it four trees, GREAT BOOK! Although I wish Rebbeca Stead didn't put in so many side-story's.
As you can see, I absolutely adored this book, so here are some examples from the book that support my opinion.
First, I thought it was fast paced when Sal got punched by Marcus near the garage where all the joe-bobs and hooligans hang out. I also thought is was fast paced when Marcus was talking with Miranda about that book they where both reading. This shows that it is fast paced because it went by very fast, first you are reading some random scene, then Sal gets punched.
Secondly, think that a book that gets a Newbery Honor is good because if it was bad, it wouldn't get a Newbery Medal, that is only my opinion, some people might disagree with me, (they might not have liked When You Reach Me.)
And third, this book is good for guys because that guys would understand it better, girls understand some books better than guys, and visa versa. I also liked it when Miranda kept on getting mysterious notes. I wish Jimmy wasn't racist to Julia, but I guess good books have to have some problems that don't really have an effect on the book. I also wish that Rebbeca Stead hadn't put the who park idea that Jay Stringer made up. it was ANOTHER side-story.

This is fantastic book and I loved it. I wish that my parents would read it but I don't think they will.
Don't forget to edit for typos and for missing words, etc. You have some great ideas here, and good voice.
ReplyDeleteGraham,
ReplyDeleteI think you did a awesome job on your post i like how you told about the book so the person reading the post would understand what you were talking about. I also like how you followed the instructions and you putt in 5.00 words and not 50 cent words
Graeme,
ReplyDeleteI'm reading When You Reach Me. I agree with you on all of your reasoning. I thought that you had good evidence. For example, the time when you said that it was fast paced when Marcus hit Sal.
One thing that maybe you could change is that you have a few typos and misspelled words.
I really liked your post, it makes me want to pick up When You Reach Me right now.
Great post,
Miles
